Preparing for Corporate Worship

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! -Psalm 34:3

As you prepare yourselves and your families for worshiping together tommorrow night here are a couple of items to assist you.

The text we will be looking at tommorrow night will be Ephesians 5:22-33. We will examing God’s design for men and how the gospel is practically applied to living as a husband.

Here is a list of the songs we will be singing. Maybe pick one or two to sing together as a family as you prepare to praise God for His grace.

Let Your Kingdom Come
How Great is our God
Great is Thy Faithfulness
The Love of God
Beautiful Scandalous Night
O Come and Mourn

Also, tommorrow is the first Sunday of the month so we will be reflecting on the cross of Christ together and remembering His work as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.

There is a reason why Sunday is the best day of the week and the church is the dearest place on earth. Looking forward to worshiping together with you tomorrow evening.

BTW- sorry this is rather late in getting posted- if we decide to make this a practice we’ll try to get it up by Friday night.

Introducing . . . Equip

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Equip is the name of the training and education ministry of Auburn Sovereign Grace Fellowship. Each semester a variety of courses taught by the elders will be offered on Tuesday nights.  Each Equip offering is strategically intended to build up the body of ASGF in maturity, knowledge, and Christ-like living.

Fall Offerings:

Equip: Evangelism- this class is being offered to spur ASGF towards being a body that is characterized by constant and naturally overflowing evangelism. The two main texts for this course are “Tell the Truth” by Will Metzger and “Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God” by J.I. Packer. This course will deal with issues of philosophy, method, and other practical issues surrounding evangelism. It will be led by Tim Pickard (who also happens to be the chief student in need of learning and growth in this topic) and will be held at his home. Please contact Tim with questions or to sign up for the course (or you may use the comment section below).  Begins September 12th- 7pm at the Pickards.

Equip: Bible Doctrine- this class is a continuation of the Bible Doctrine class already in progress led by Josh Winans. The class is based on the book “Bible Doctrine” by Wayne Grudem. In light of the fact that this class is aproximately three quarters of the way through the material we would encourage those not already a part of it to wait until next fall when it will be offered again. Begins September 19th.

In the spring we are hoping to offer at least three new courses including one on Parenting Teenagers.  Please pray for this ministry and consider how it might be useful in your own growth and sanctification.

Ministry Opportunity- Book Table

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

As elders we are constantly seeking to think through how we can better shepherd the flock and provide guidance and teaching to the church.

One way that we can do this is by providing resources that will help build the body up in the faith.  There are some great resources out there in audio and book form that we would love to get into the hands of those that are eager to learn.

In order to get something like this going we need to find someone who has a passion and love for getting good resources to fellow believers and the ability and time to make a project like this work.

Please let us know if you would be interested in facilitating and running a book table or if you would be willing to assist in this project.

Baptism

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

We have scheduled a baptism service on Sunday July 23rd at 9:30 am.  It will take the place of your Grace Groups that morning and will be held at the Smotherman’s

Now all we need is believers in our body who desire to obey their Lord in being baptized.  This is an incredible opportunity to joyfully proclaim the praises of your Savior, to worship Him with simple obedience, and to edify your fellow beleivers.

Talk to your Grace Group Elder if you are interested and they will begin to walk you through the process of preparing for this time.

Grace Groups: Together Pursuing Christ

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Sunday June 4th is the launch date for Grace Groups here at Sovereign Grace Fellowship. Each group will meet Sunday evenings from 6-8 at various homes throughout the greater Auburn area. These home small groups will be the primary avenue for fellowship, discipleship, service and many other aspects of our church life here at SGF.

We are desiring and asking for maximum involvement and participation in these groups believing that they are strategic and crucial for the development, growth and maturing of each individual and the body as a whole. More details will be coming soon but for now be sure to set aside this night on your calendar.

Hadley Jun Reed

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Congratulations to Jeff and Joy Reed on the birth of their new baby girl. Hadley Jun was born at 4:46 PM on May 22nd. She weighed 8.3 ounces and measured 20&1/2 inches long.

We must be in prayer for one another, recognizing how great the task of child rearing is. If you need to be reminded of the influence we have on our children, consider J.C. Ryle’s words:
(J. C. Ryle, “The Duties of Parents“)

Parents, train your children remembering continually
the influence of your own example!

Instruction, and advice, and commands will profit little–
unless they are backed up by the pattern of your own life!

Your children will never believe you are in earnest,
so long as your actions contradict your counsel.
