WHAT TO EXPECT

We know a lot of questions often come up when getting involved in unfamiliar activities and going to unfamiliar places. We love having guests and would enjoy doing whatever we can to make you feel at home. Below are the answers to some questions you might have about our church and our gatherings.

Where Do I go?

  • We meet at the Canyon View Community Center off of Maidu Drive. Parking is usually available in the upper lot. You can find the Information and resource tables in the lobby. The main service is in the Sierra room and the children’s classes meet in various rooms throughout the building.

What time do I go there?

  • Service starts at 10am. You might want to arrive a few minutes early to give yourself time to park and check your infants and toddlers into class if needed.

How do I dress?

  • We don’t have a dress code of any kind although the attire ranges from casual to dressy casual.

What do I do when I get there?

  • Make yourself at home, check out the information table and peruse the resource table to get an idea of what we’re about. The greeter handing out the bulletins will be glad to help you find the information you need, figure out where your children need to go, and introduce you to other members.

What do I do with my kids?

  • We have a team of children’s ministry volunteers that love children and work hard each week at communicating the gospel to them in ways they can understand.
  • Childcare for infants and toddlers is available from the beginning of service. Children in the Preschool, K-2nd and 3rd-6th classes are usually dismissed right before the sermon so that families can enjoy the prayer and singing time together. After service please follow the signs in the hallway to find your child’s classroom and pick your child up.
  • While we offer children’s ministry, children of all ages are more than welcome to remain in service with their parents. We encourage our parents to think strategically about how to gradually train their children to participate in all aspects of corporate worship.
  • For more information on our children’s ministry go to the Children’s ministry page.

What will the worship service be like?

  • Overall we try to keep things biblical, and therefore simple. We want as much of the focus to be on God and the good news about Jesus’ death and resurrection as possible. Below is a common order of service.
    • Song
    • Announcements
    • Songs (4 or 5)
    • Dismissal of children
    • Sermon
    • Song
  • Music- Our music is a blend of traditional hymns and more modern truth-filled songs with a variety of musical instruments (guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, etc.). We love to join together in singing the praises of our great God and the wonders of Christ and His work on the cross.
  • Preaching- Because we believe the Bible is God’s revealed truth we are committed to teaching the Bible. This means we are almost always teaching through a book of the Bible and explaining a particular section of it each week. We work hard to understand the meaning of the text of Scripture as well as how it transforms our thoughts, beliefs, affections, words, and actions.
  • Prayer- Speaking to our heavenly Father in prayer is central to our time together and is sprinkled throughout our services. We often take time to bring up specific needs in the body and together ask God to work in those situations. We cherish the opportunity prayer provides to express our praise, thanks, repentance and dependence on our all sufficient God.
  • Lord’s Supper- The first Sunday of every month we take the Lord’s Supper together (commonly referred to as Communion). This is a simple time of remembering celebrating Christ’s death on our behalf and in our place. In eating the bread and drinking the juice we are expressing together our personal trust and deep connection with Christ and His death. This is a time for both sober reflection and joyous celebration of the work of our Savior.
  • Fellowship- Before and after service we enjoy spending time together simply sharing life. These are key times for us as a church family to build community and build individuals up in maturity and godliness. Often these times spill over half an hour or more past the end of service or into a shared meal at a local restaurant or home.

How else can I get involved?

  • Besides Sunday morning corporate worship, the best way to get involved is to get plugged into a Grace Group. Grace Groups are our small group ministry and are crucial for living out life in the church as God has intended. For details and contact information check the Grace Group page.
  • Equip classes serve to educate and equip our people in subjects related to Scripture and Christian living. The classes vary from semester depending on a number of factors. For a summary of what Equip classes are about and current classes being offered see the Equip Classes page.
  • Other opportunities are less regular and many are informal. Check the bulletin for upcoming events and activities.

Feel free to contact us if you have further questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
